  1. Hi Maureen and Rick,

I’m Kevin Weiss from the BU Men’s Club Volleyball Team and on behalf of myself and the entire club program we’d like to extend our deepest sympathies to you for the loss of James. It came as a shock to all of us and we are very saddened to lose a good friend and great person. Many of us were unable to attend the service but have had you and James in our thoughts and prayers.

You are likely aware that we are renaming our annual alumni tournament in honor James. We would like to formally invite you to the tournament, Saturday March 24th, 2012. We are planning on making a presentation to you before the all-alumni game. At this time, James’s teammates are planning on making brief remarks to all current members of the team and participating alumni in attendance.

The alumni tournament typically goes from 8:30am until 5:00pm, which is a long time to be in the gym whether you’re playing or spectating. We’d like to coordinate the timing of the memorial such that it is convenient for your schedule based on the time(s) that you wish to be present at the tournament. We have the ability to schedule the memorial as well as alumni matches at any time during the day.

Also, as part of the alumni event, the current team and alumni go to dinner at Maggiano’s after the tournament. In honor of this tradition, we wanted to invite you to a dinner at as well. We typically reserve a private room which can get a bit boisterous, so we wanted to treat you to dinner at Maggiano’s at your own private table for you to enjoy and be comfortable, but of course you are more than welcome to visit our “raucous room” at your leisure.

Because of the flexibility afforded to us for when/where we can hold the proceedings, we were hoping that you could provide us with some insight to best accommodate for your schedule and plans. I understand from Ryan Fishoff and Michael Gurr that you may have already inquired about this event and have been offered a discounted hotel, so if I’m missing any details or pre-arranged plans, please forgive my lateness to the conversation. I am Chairman of the Alumni Development Committee, and would be more than happy to talk on the phone or via email to coordinate. Please let me know what is easiest for you.

    Sincerest Regards,
    Kevin Weiss
BU Mens’ Club Volleyball // Alumni Development Chairman

  2. Hello. I read the Newsday article with such sadness. The tragedy you experienced is hard for me to imagine. I can’t get out of my mind the part of the article that mentioned you visiting your son’s grave for hours at a time. I felt so badly for a father that wanted to be close to his son.

I hope you have success with your legislative campaign.

My best to you and your family.
